DURANT, Okla. (Dec. 18, 2018) – A formal check presentation was held on Tuesday, Dec. 18 at Choctaw Casino & Resort – Durant to present Susan G. Komen – Tulsa  with $160,000 to help educate, fight and detect breast cancer. The event started out with a bang with the Durant High School drumline performing a few songs for the cancer survivors and Choctaw employees that attended. Pam Ballard, Chief Executive Officer, for Susan G. Komen – Tulsa and Choctaw Casinos leadership was also in attendance to celebrate this day.

For the fifth consecutive year, Choctaw Casinos & Resorts raised money throughout the month of October by donating 100 percent of the sales from t-shirts, specialty cocktails and guest donations as well as a donation from the Choctaw Nation.

“Today we are happy to recognize our associates that fought the battle with breast cancer and remember the ones we lost,” states Sara Adams, Choctaw Casino & Resort – Durant marketing manager. “We are so proud of the dedication and generosity exhibited by guests and associates that donated to this wonderful cause. This year we raised $160,000, which was $60,000 more than we did last year and that is simply amazing.”

Breast Cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths among women and is the leading type of cancer diagnosed among Native Americans.

“Through contributions from the Choctaw Nation we can really make an impact and see more Native American women and men live longer because of the education we can provide them,” states Pam Ballard, Chief Executive Officer, Susan G. Komen-Tulsa. “Over the past six grant cycles we have reinvested just under $1 million dollars in the Choctaw Nation for new mammogram equipment, breast health screenings and indirect services.”
